I am pretty sure that the last 3.5 weeks have been the most blissful of my entire life. Honestly. It is so true what people say about your third child: that it takes a third to make you slow down and truly appreciate their every stage.
With my first child I was a ball of nerves and wanted to get everything perfect. With my second, I was literally just trying to survive the balance of more than one kid. Child number three… completely magical. I am a confident parent at this point, no longer trying to get everything “perfect”. I know that I can balance more than one child (it may not be pretty but it can be done) and I have learned by now just how fast everything goes by. All of this has culminated into a magical experience that is totally chaotic but at the same time, so very blissful.
Sure, things are bonkers. Sure I have 3 tiny people to take care of, feed, transport, entertain, educate and generally just keep alive. But I am also hyper-aware that this new baby will only be tiny for a short while. Sure, I am not getting more than a few hours sleep and can’t nap during the day but I know how precious those middle-of-the-night feedings are and that once they are gone, that is bonding time that I will never get back. Sure, the new baby wants to be held and snuggled constantly but I make it work because I know that this is a phase that will also pass. Yes, things are challenging right now. But they are so very wonderful at the same time. So. Very. Wonderful.
