I arrived at this newborn session to a bustling household. Mom is feeding the baby. Big sister is running around. Dad is having coffee and the grandparents are packing up their things about to head out of town. This is a pretty normal scene for me. Shooting newborns means that there is often extended family in town and I have met many a lovely grandparent over the years.
While everyone was doing there thing I began to unpack my gear and get myself ready to roll. I start talking to the grandparents only to find out that they live in the same small town as my in-laws. The further we get into the conversation we quickly realize that not only do they live in the same town (that no one has heard of) but they actually live two lots away from each other. And they totally know each other. Is that not wild? My mind was completely blown. Talk about a small world!
Anyways, once the session got under way it was clear that big sister would be running the show. Let me stop right here and say, that it is totally normal for the older sibling(s) to run the show during a newborn session. That is just the nature of it. And I let it happen that way. You see, the baby doesn’t know or care that I am there. But the older siblings do. It is so important for me to get in good with the siblings in order for a shoot to go well…During this particular shoot, I did get in good with little Miss. In fact, I walked away with a new nickname: Eggie:) No one is quite sure how “Sabrina” turned into “Eggie” but I love it and I hope she remembers it next time I see this precious family.
